Harvey & Mueller was founded in 2019, in a Brisbane apartment, with one sketchbook and the conviction that engagement rings had got needlessly expensive — not because the stones were costly, but because everything around them was.

We’d both spent years working in the trade — Sarah at a high-street chain on Queen Street Mall, James on the supply side, sourcing stones for a Sydney atelier. We’d watched the same ring leave the workshop at $1,200 and arrive on a customer’s finger at $6,800. We’d watched couples leave a counter looking less in love than when they walked in, because the price had quietly outgrown the moment.

Seven years later, Harvey & Mueller is still small. We work entirely by video appointment. We don’t carry stock — every ring is drawn, sketched and made to order. The savings of that model show up in one place: the price. A ring that would cost $9,500 in a showroom on Queen Street costs around $4,800 with us. Same stone, same gold, same finishing standard.

We’re not the cheapest. There are cheaper. But we’re honest about every line on every quote, we draw every ring by hand before any metal is cast, and we’ll still be here in twenty years when you bring it back for a polish.

The studio

One desk. One sketchbook.

We work from a small studio in inner Brisbane, by appointment only. There is no showroom. There is a desk, a sketchbook, a strong lamp, and a tray of wax models from rings we’ve made recently.

Every commission is one-to-one. There are no salespeople. There are no commissions. The person who sketches your ring is the same person who reads your design submission, and the same person who will inspect it before it ships.

We don’t mind that you can’t walk in off the street. It’s the reason your ring costs what it should, rather than what it’s usually sold for.

The workshop

Where the making happens.

We don’t cast our own rings. Almost no independent Australian jeweller does — the equipment to do it well is enormous, and the volume to justify the equipment requires a chain.

Instead, every Harvey & Mueller ring is made by a workshop we’ve worked with for six years, audited in person twice, and trust completely. Their hand-finishing is among the best we’ve seen. The work is overseas; the standard is uncompromising.

Every finished ring comes back to our Brisbane studio for a final quality check, in our own hands, before it leaves for your door. If it’s not right, it goes back. We’ve never sent a ring out the door we wouldn’t put on a partner’s finger.

Every quote is broken down — metal weight, stone cost, labour. You’ll know exactly where each dollar goes before we begin.

For a lifetime

Complimentary resizing, polishing, and prong-checks for as long as you wear the ring. Send it to us, we’ll have it back within a fortnight — insured, both ways.
