About this statement
Harvey & Mueller ABN 00 000 000 000 makes this voluntary modern slavery statement in the spirit of the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth). Although our annual turnover is below the $100 million mandatory reporting threshold, we believe transparency is a minimum standard for any responsible business — and particularly for one that sources precious materials from complex global supply chains.
This statement was approved by Harvey & Mueller’s founders and covers our operations and supply chain for the year ending 30 June 2026.
Our structure and operations
Harvey & Mueller is a small, founder-owned custom engagement ring studio based in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. We design, source stones for, and finish all rings in our Brisbane workshop. We do not operate any overseas manufacturing facilities.
We employ a small team of goldsmiths and designers, all based in Australia, all engaged under Australian workplace law, and all paid above Award rates.
Our supply chain
The materials we use enter Australia through the following supply chains:
- Natural diamonds and coloured gemstones — sourced from Australian-based gem wholesalers who are members of the Jewellers Association of Australia (JAA) and operate under the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) for rough diamonds
- Lab-grown diamonds — purchased from IGI- and GIA-certified producers; every lab diamond carries a full traceability certificate
- Gold and platinum — purchased as certified recycled or responsibly-mined precious metal from Australian refiners and bullion dealers, all members of the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) or equivalent
- Packaging — wooden ring boxes sourced from an Australian supplier using FSC-certified timbers; all card and paper products printed in Australia
Modern slavery risks
We recognise that the jewellery supply chain carries inherent modern slavery risks, particularly in:
- Artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) — where informal gold and gemstone mining in some countries involves child labour, debt bondage, and unsafe conditions
- Diamond cutting and polishing — historically concentrated in regions where labour standards can be difficult to verify independently
- Metal refining — complex global supply chains can obscure the provenance of raw ore
Because we source exclusively through Australian-based wholesalers and certified supply chains, our direct exposure to these risks is reduced. We acknowledge, however, that no supply chain is entirely risk-free, and we continue to monitor this area actively.
Actions we take
To identify and address modern slavery risks, we:
- Purchase only Kimberley Process certified natural diamonds and require a certificate for every stone
- Prioritise lab-grown diamonds and recycled gold wherever client preferences permit, as these materials carry significantly lower supply chain risk
- Require all stone and metal suppliers to confirm they are members of a recognised industry body (JAA, LBMA, or equivalent) with a published responsible sourcing policy
- Review supplier relationships annually and ask suppliers to confirm their sourcing practices in writing
- Maintain a register of all suppliers and the certifications held by each
Effectiveness
In the year to 30 June 2026, we:
- Sourced 100% of our diamonds with KPCS certification or IGI/GIA lab-grown certification
- Sourced 100% of our gold from LBMA-member refiners or certified recycled sources
- Received no reports or complaints relating to modern slavery from any supplier, client, or employee
- Completed an annual review of our top five suppliers by spend, with no material concerns identified
We acknowledge that our ability to verify conditions at every level of the supply chain is limited by our size. We will continue to improve our due diligence as the business grows.
Consultation
This statement was developed by Harvey & Mueller’s founders in consultation with our studio team. We will review and update it annually, or sooner if there is a material change to our operations or supply chain.
Approval
This statement was approved by the founders of Harvey & Mueller for the financial year ending 30 June 2026.
